your suprasternal notch

wishes collecting in the hollow
of your clavicular depressions
and boiling in the heat

shadows are too loud behind your sternum and
the costal arch juts out like a knife

an end to an archipelago of ribs

fight fire with the unbroken expanse
of a well-beaten manubrium
and call it an unwarranted change of
shape

i'll fall under your thoracic aperture
anytime you like
it's not that the xiphoid process is the only part of the torso that i can name; it's just that is happens to be my favorite (well, almost my favorite--second only to the suprasternal/jugular notch, and loved just about as much as the clavicular notches).

bones are just really damn cool.
